Going All the Way
A couple of weeks ago, I received Craig Groeschel’s new book, Going All the Way, on dating and marriage, and have meant to do my required write up on it since then…
I actually really enjoyed it. It’s an easy read with a lot of good “dating theology” mixed into personal stories. One of the things I appreciated most was how he dealt with the thought that God only has one person designed for you to marry and you need to find them. Craig concludes that there are plenty of people who you could marry who would be pleasing to God and you should exercise free will in finding that person. Although it’s not as romantic sounding as saying that God only has one person in mind for you, it makes a lot more sense to me (although, sweetie, I swear that you’re the exact person God planned for me before I was born :)…).
It was a good book that had a lot of good points in it. It’s not going to blow you away, but I thought it would be a decent read for single high schoolers and the over 35 crowd (not sure how those two fit together, but for some reason I kept thinking of people in those two groups who I’d recommend it to). I think I’ll still recommend Sex God often, but this is probably an easier read and there are people who may want to read it instead. If you’re looking for something to spell stuff out for you rather than making you think more about it yourself, then this is probably a better book. That doesn’t make it bad, like I said, I enjoyed it…it’s just for a different audience.
Thought I’d end with my favorite quote…
Sin is like a good sneeze. It feels good coming out. Then you get snot everywhere.
